What we want to know before we arrive
Electric wheelchairs vary greatly in weight, length and width. A compact model almost always fits; a large mobility scooter or a wheelchair with a lot of extra features calls for a quick check. So when booking, tell us the brand and type, or give an approximate weight and the dimensions.
That takes a minute on the phone and prevents an unpleasant surprise at the door. Not sure about the measurements? We'll take a look together and tell you honestly whether it fits.
Safely on and off the ramp
The electric ramp at the back lifts your wheelchair to the level of the vehicle. There are yellow handles on the sides that the driver uses to guide you and the chair. Inside the vehicle, the driver secures the wheelchair at multiple points and checks the belt. We only set off once everything is secure.
At the destination it works the other way around. You set the pace, and the driver waits until you're ready. If your electric wheelchair has an off switch or freewheel mode, the driver will ask what to do with it, so nothing moves by accident while loading.
For longer rides too
With an electric wheelchair, a longer journey by public transport is often difficult: lifts that don't work, platforms with no space, rushed transfers. Transport by wheelchair-accessible vehicle takes that uncertainty away. You are picked up and dropped off at a fixed spot, without transfers.
